otsdaq is a Ready-to-Use data-acquisition (DAQ) solution aimed at scaling down to test-beam, detector development, and other rapid-deployment scenarios; and scaling up through the development cycle to fullscale production and operation.
otsdaq uses the artdaq DAQ framework under-the-hood, providing flexibility and scalability to meet evolving DAQ needs.
otsdaq provides a library of supported front-end boards and firmware modules which implement a custom UDP protocol.
Additionally, an integrated Run Control GUI and readout software are provided, preconfigured to communicate with otsdaq firmware.
Experiments using otsdaq
Several different experiments have chosen otsdaq as their data-acquisition system, and the flexibility of the framework allows it to support each without modification of the core framework.
CMS Outer Tracker Production Test Stand
A supervisor application based on the CMS XDAQ framework has been developed around the Ph2-ACF libraries, to manage the burn-in system and test beam runs using otsdaq at the test stands at Fermilab. The otsdaq-based test stand is a crucial part of the quality assurance and control process for the new Outer Tracker modules.
Mu2e
Mu2e has chosen otsdaq integrated with ardaq and art to configure, control, and readout the detector at up to 200 kHz event rate.
Fermilab Test Beam Facility
otsdaq is deployed at the Fermilab Test Beam Facility (FTBF) to readout the beamline instrumentation in support of FTBF users, and is available as a ready-to-use DAQ system for the readout and control of user detectors and electronics. In addition to reading out the facility tracking detectors, the FTBF Data Acquisition system (DAQ) can manage triggering (e.g., coincidence of scintillator paddles) and perform basic track reconstruction through the facility in real-time.
